And what do you do for recreation?
The Dude really had this nailed. His entire life revolved around recreation. That is, of course, before the carpet pissers, The Big Lebowski, The Nihilists, Donny’s heart attack, Da Fino and the Chief of Police of Malibu. “Would you just, take it easy, man?”
Can’t we all just take it easy more often? Why rush around trying to achieve? What’s the point? The final level in this game of life ends at the same place for us all. Enjoy it while you can. Drink White Russians, chill in your jelly sandals listening to some Creedence and be sure to bowl, often. Take care of each other. Lessen the suffering and strife throughout the world by helping other people at all times (yes, that’s a reference to the Scout oath).
Gather goods. Gather wealth. The things you own, own you (another reference…Papa Roach). I recently moved into a new house and boy do we have a lot of crap! Things you think you might need someday, you squirrel away. Ok Dude, this isn’t the Great Depression. You don’t need that drawer of screws, nails and randomly shaped bits of scrap. Donate it!
I’ll tell you what I’m blathering about. NASA just launched Artemis 1 into space, headed to the moon. As humans, we’re exploring ways to expand. We want to see what else is out there. Find water. Find other life. Build alternate living spaces on Mars, just in case we blow this home on Earth to smithereens. But why? Why are we such try hards? I suppose that’s what got us this far. Upright walking, thumbs, language, medicine, indoor plumbing, a little film we all know and love called The Big Lebowski! Constantly trying to evolve, improve and achieve. Seems counterproductive most of the time. The world is getting more complex when all we really need is to slow down, take it easy and spend more time enjoying life. Don’t get me wrong though. I’m a huge fan of the space exploration. I’d love for astronauts to encounter life from another planet. That sure would shake things up here at home. Nobody fucks with the Jesus. Yeah, well, about that…
